Following its premiere on Kerrang! Radio, Fresh Blood with Alex Baker, PLEIADES share their haunting new track for ‘PALE SOUL 94’ available on all digital platforms November 27th, 2020. Once again collaborating with Joe Clayton (Pijn, Leeched, Wren, Ithica) the Mancunian post-metal act’s expert use of dynamics, space and brutality are perfectly captured, combining beautiful and alluring soundscapes with flashes of vicious fury.
“Our new track is the link between ‘All At Your Mercy’ EP and the learning experiences that we encountered during its creation and release. It was a product of many different ideas, shared creative processes and the result of five like-minded individuals enjoying the cathartic freedom that music offers. It helped us to evolve and create a more refined sound of new material to come, documenting the change from fragility into fierce independence. I have watched my family change rapidly throughout the year in the blink of an eye from a distance. This year has really magnified that change having had four months sat with only myself for company, to analyse time passing me by. Gratitude and sentimentality have become so intense and perspectives on what is truly important evolves. I look at Pale Soul 94 as a personal lesson that I am very grateful to be able to learn from.” – Andy Calderbank
PLEIADES are a five-piece post-metal band from Manchester brought together through their love of all things emo and alternative. Originally creating emotive instrumental soundscapes as a three-piece, the band held auditions for a vocalist to add an extra dimension.
“We originally had people come in and sing Jimmy Eat World’s ‘Polaris’ but nothing quite clicked. When Andy (Calderbank) came in, he was really up for having a go at one of the pieces we’d written and he just LET RIP! Honestly, I couldn’t stop smiling throughout. It was the combination of shouts, screams and his impassioned vocal style that caught our attention… we took him on straight away.”
Seeking to enrich their new sound and complete the lineup, the band enlisted the skills of Ryan Noble (guitar) an old friend of Andy’s, who brought greater depth, production and substance to the band, helping them to realise their vision and setting them on the path to writing their first record. The lineup was finally complete with the addition of OJ Riley (drums) bringing energy and intensity to their live show. The band have since gone on to release their critically acclaimed ‘ALL AT YOUR MERCY’ EP as well as sharing stages with the like of Pagan, Hawthorne Heights, Free throw, Napoleon, Chapter and Verse, OHHMS and more.
With 2020 anything but certain, PLEIADES begin to craft what will become their debut album, combining elements of 90’s post-hardcore and post-rock at the forefront. Watch this space.
