Fishbone celebrate 40 years of In Your Face with special reissue

For more than four decades, Fishbone have stood apart from the pack — a band whose sound blends punk, ska, funk, soul, reggae and metal into something impossible to categorise. Now the legendary Los Angeles outfit are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their groundbreaking debut album In Your Face with a special limited-edition reissue arriving on 10 April 2026.

The new release arrives as a double LP package limited to just 1,000 copies worldwide and pressed on both black and striking Tiger’s Eye vinyl. Alongside a remastered version of the original 1986 album sits a brand new companion record titled Cover Your Face, featuring reinterpretations of Fishbone songs from artists across the globe.

A tribute from fans and peers

The tribute album highlights the enduring influence of Fishbone’s fearless genre-mashing approach. Artists contributing to Cover Your Face include Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, Twin Shadow, Silversun Pickups, Wheatus, Catbite, The Ratchets and Kimya Dawson, each delivering their own take on the band’s material.

Patrick Stump recalls discovering the band as a child.

“The first time I was exposed to Fishbone I was seven years old watching TV. It was an explosion of punk, ska, soul, metal, reggae and funk played by one of the tightest bands I’ve ever seen.”

Twin Shadow’s George Lewis Jr. also credits the group with shaping his musical instincts after witnessing their unforgettable performance of “Sunless Saturday” on Saturday Night Live.

Meanwhile, Silversun Pickups frontman Brian Aubert describes contributing to the project as a genuine honour, noting that anyone growing up in Los Angeles with an ear for alternative music inevitably encountered the impact of Fishbone.

Looking beyond the anniversary celebrations, Fishbone are already preparing the next chapter. The band have launched a Kickstarter campaign titled Fishbone – Powered by the People, designed to fund the recording and release of a brand new studio album expected this summer.

True to the band’s fiercely independent spirit, the campaign allows fans to directly support the project while gaining access to exclusive rewards including signed vinyl, limited colour pressings and bundled editions.

With a landmark reissue, a tour celebrating one of their defining albums and new music on the horizon, 2026 looks set to be another pivotal year for one of alternative music’s most enduring and uncompromising bands.
