Carl Barât joins The Molotovs for What A Waster at sold-out Kentish Town shows
The Molotovs brought their two-night run at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town to a close with a guest appearance from Carl Barât, who joined the sibling-led band for a rendition of The Libertines’ What A Waster.
Barât appeared during the second sold-out Forum show on Saturday 26 September, adding a fittingly ragged, singalong finish to a weekend that carried particular significance for Matt and Issey Cartlidge. Five years earlier, the pair played their first show as The Molotovs at the same venue, opening for The Libertines.
A full-circle Forum moment
The Libertines frontman first encountered the band when they were teenagers preparing to busk near the Albion Rooms in Margate. In a statement following the show, Barât praised the group’s route from street performances to their own headline dates.
“The Molotovs are a true force for good for music today. Years busking on every street corner in the city – and supporting some of the finest acts around – to selling out two forums on their own, they’ve managed to carve their path the old school way. I wish them hearty congratulations and continued greatness.”
Addressing the crowd at the Forum, Issey Cartlidge reflected on the band’s journey since that first support slot, telling fans: “So here we are, 600 gigs later, and we’ve got you lot to thank for following on this wayward journey. So thank you very much. This isn’t a final destination, this is only a stop along the way.”
Second album due in April
The Kentish Town dates arrived as The Molotovs’ Welcome to Urbia tour nears its conclusion. Their second album, also titled Welcome to Urbia, is due for release on 9 April 2027 via Marshall Records. Pre-order the album here.
Before then, the band will join Razorlight for a run of UK and Irish dates in November and December, including a show at London’s OVO Arena Wembley.
