Death From Above 1979 set Private Lives album for January alongside North American tour
Death From Above 1979 have announced their fifth album, Private Lives, due for release on 29 January 2027 through Last Gang/MNRK.
The Toronto duo have also shared the record’s title track, a tightly coiled blast of riff-heavy rock that opens the forthcoming 10-song LP. Its accompanying video stars Danish actor Kim Bodnia and was directed by Eva Michon.
A record shaped by contradiction
Speaking about the new single, the band said: “The song Private Lives is a declaration of privacy in an era of overexposure. We are compelled, often by one another, to share our most intimate moments and quietest thoughts. To what end? More often than not, to be part of a cheap consumer feedback loop. Ultimately though, it’s just a ripping rock song with maniacal riffs!”
They added: “Our new 10-song LP, Private Lives, represents a renewed commitment to the pure industrial magic of electricity. We’ve never been able to do anything halfway. Much like Kim Bodnia’s dance performance in the video for the lead single, it’s all or nothing for us.”
The album arrives following a run of anniversary performances celebrating both You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine and The Physical World. Jesse F. Keeler said revisiting the older material sharpened the duo’s appetite for new work: “Playing the old songs every day really inspires you to want to make something new.”
Sebastien Grainger added: “After the anniversary shows, we were at once kinda sick of celebrating ourselves but also re-grounded in the true foundational sound of the band.”

Alongside the title track, the album includes Mystery, featuring Brazilian rock group CSS, plus Dreams, Like My Ex Did and Late Stage Liberal.

North American dates begin in February
Death From Above 1979 will take Private Lives on the road across North America in February and March 2027, beginning in Tempe before closing the run in Seattle.
