Mini Skirt Unleash Garage Punk Fury With ‘Squeeze Down’

“All grit and no glamour, Mini Skirt’s sound is a working-class howl from the belly of modern Australia.”

Mini Skirt Return With Ripping New Single ‘Squeeze Down’

Byron Bay’s no-frills pub-punk powerhouses Mini Skirt are back and swinging with a new single, ‘Squeeze Down’, the first sonic sledgehammer from their upcoming second album ‘All That We Know’, out November 14 via Bad Vibrations.

Mini Skirt

Five years on from their cult debut ‘Casino’, the Aussie four-piece return with their signature blend of grit, melody and raw lyrical honesty. ‘Squeeze Down’ is a jagged garage punk eruption—equal parts defiant and desperate—with frontman Jacob Boylan pouring out frustration and identity-rooted reflections after their first UK/EU tour in 2022.

“It was the first time I realised who I am is so deeply rooted in where I am from,” says Boylan. “I felt isolated and misunderstood.”

The song’s riff, originally penned by guitarist Cam Campbell for his other band Chrome Cell Torture, was considered “not tough enough” for them—so Mini Skirt adopted it, added their own bite, and turned it into a scorcher.

The track arrives with a chaotic new video directed by Ben Portnoy of fellow Australian punk outfit C.O.F.F.I.N.—a visual that perfectly captures the grubby, high-octane energy Mini Skirt are known for on stage.

Rooted in a deeply Australian sound that tips its beer-splashed hat to acts like X and Radio Birdman, Mini Skirt bring a sense of modern urgency and political awareness to their songwriting. From the muck of daily life comes something vital, melodic, and angry—‘Squeeze Down’ is exactly that.

The band’s forthcoming LP, ‘All That We Know’, was mixed and mastered by Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Total Control), and will be self-released in Australia, while London-based Bad Vibrations handles the international release.
