Pennywise Drop Ferocious Ace of Spades Cover for Motörhead Tribute Album

Pennywise have unleashed a high-octane cover of Motörhead’s iconic Ace of Spades, taken from the forthcoming compilation Killed By Deaf – A Punk Tribute To Motörhead, due out 31st October 2025.

The album is a raucous love letter to the band that brought punks and metalheads together in the first place. It features 14 tracks from punk heroes and underground lifers alike — including Rancid, GBH, The Bronx, FEAR, and more — each taking a swing at Motörhead’s explosive back catalogue.

“That’s not metal — that’s punk rock!”

Reflecting on Motörhead’s crossover appeal, Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge shared:

“Getting into punk rock around 1980, basically the only metal band that was allowed to be part of the punk rock scene was Motörhead. If you saw somebody show up in a jean vest with the Motörhead patch on the back it was like, ‘There’s a metaller, but he can hang with us.’ Ace of Spades was the track where you heard that and went, ‘That’s not metal, that’s punk rock!’”

In a time when punk and metal rarely mingled, Motörhead stood as the unifying exception — aggressive, raw, and undeniably cool. Killed By Deaf pays tribute to that legacy, with contributions from both veterans and rising voices alike.
