A Life in Punk: From Dust to the Blitzkrieg

Before joining the Ramones in 1978, Marky Ramone had already carved out a place in New York’s punk and glam underworld. His journey began in the early ’70s with Brooklyn hard rock outfit Dust, later shifting gears with Wayne County and The Backstreet Boys—a band that helped shape the nascent glam-punk scene at Max’s Kansas City.

His next move was seismic: co-founding Richard Hell & the Voidoids, whose Blank Generation album became a punk blueprint. But it was a chance bar conversation with Dee Dee Ramone at CBGB that changed everything. Just weeks later, Marky was behind the kit, recording Road to Ruin—featuring the now-iconic I Wanna Be Sedated.

Over the next 15 years, Marky helped define the Ramones’ legacy across more than 1700 shows and multiple classic albums, including the Phil Spector-produced End of the Century. Despite a brief departure in the ’80s, he returned in 1987 and stayed with the band until their 1996 farewell.

More Than a Drummer: Legacy and Evolution

Since the Ramones’ disbandment, Marky has continued flying the punk flag. He recorded with Joey Ramone on Don’t Worry About Me, launched a successful solo tour under the Blitzkrieg name, and became a SiriusXM host with Marky Ramone’s Punk Rock Blitzkrieg. From fashion collabs to pasta sauce to a Hall of Fame induction, he’s remained one of punk’s most visible and vibrant ambassadors.

Whether fronted by Michale Graves or Andrew W.K., Marky Ramone’s Blitzkrieg offers fans an unrelenting, high-energy tribute to the Ramones’ enduring spirit—something that shows no signs of slowing down in 2026.
