Goodnight & Make Mends‘ is the latest track by The Rumjacks to be taken from their upcoming album Hestia, which is out on March 12th.

A touching and poignant ode to a late friend, whose poetry was used in the song to form a punk rock mourning song of acceptance. Reading through a late friend’s poetry, the songwriter recalls all of the times the two friends casually said, “let’s write a song together sometime!” and never got around to it.

Using lines of her poetry to form a call and response, the two friends, now separated by death, finally wrote their song together, albeit too late.   The sorrowful tone of the uilleann pipes sets the scene for the song which reminisces on memories of drunkenly parading through the Boston snow after closing time.

Formed in 2008, the band have released four acclaimed studio albums and two live albums to date, with their breakthrough hit ‘An Irish Pub Song’ amassing over 68 million plays on YouTube so far. They’re steadily building a solid and dedicated fanbase all over the world, with over 83 million streams across Apple and Spotify, and show no sign of stopping soon.

Hestia, the fifth studio album from The Rumjacks, marks a new era for the band. The album introduces new lead singer Mike Rivkees, whose songwriting skills have rejuvenated The Rumjacks’ collaborative spirit. The album takes the energy of traditional folk music, lights it on fire, then sprinkles it with ash. Dark, gritty, and historically aware, this is music grounded in the character of the Rebel.

When writing Hestiaband members Mike Rivkees (vocals), Johnny McKelvey (bass), Gabe Whitbourne (guitar), Adam Kenny (bouzouki/mandolin), and Pietro Della Sala (drums) apply their diverse American, Australian, Italian, and Irish perspectives to create a new, globalized iteration of the Celtic punk legacy dating back to The Pogues, with the influences of punk, ska, and hard rock pulsing through their veins.

The album was recorded under strict Covid-conditions in Milan, Italy where the band stayed through August, September and October 2020. For twelve years, The Rumjacks have written songs that you cannot help but start singing by the second chorus, even if you have never heard them before. In this short career, they have released four acclaimed studio albums and two live albums that capture their most renowned asset: their electric energy onstage. That organic energy has garnered them a far-reaching fanbase.
