‘Violent Delights’ Marks Jools’ Defiant Arrival

“These violent delights have violent ends. And violently you’ll see, nobody decides it’s over for me, but me.” — Kate Price

Jools Release Debut Album Violent Delights Following Glastonbury Debut

Emerging from the chaos and catharsis of their much-talked-about Glastonbury Festival debut, UK punk collective Jools have unleashed their first full-length statement, Violent Delights, out now via Hassle Records.

From the first bruised notes of The Pleasures to the last gasp of its title track, Violent Delights is a manifesto — a raw, genre-straddling self-portrait that threads stories of grief, rage, identity and survival through post-punk, metal, rap and post-hardcore.

A Band Born to Clash

Since forming in early 2023, Jools — Kate Price (vocals), Mitch Gordon (vocals), Chris Johnston (guitar), Callum Connachie (guitar), Joe Dodd (bass) and Chelsea Wrones (drums) — have been turning heads with live shows that veer between tender and vicious. BBC Radio One has championed the band relentlessly, handing them two ‘Tune of the Week’ spots on Daniel P Carter’s Rock Show.

The dual vocal attack of Price and Gordon is at the core of Violent Delights: part confessional, part confrontation. Each track unpacks the band’s lived truths — the scars of addiction (Dunoon), the complexity of growing up steeped in religion (Mother Monica), the sharp ache of obsession (Limerence) and songs that stare down sexual violence (97%) and champion identity (Cardinal).

From Tragedy to Triumph

Recorded at The Ranch in Southampton with producer Lewis Johns, Violent Delights refuses to sit still, pulling as much from Turnstile and Mannequin Pussy as it does from Little Simz or The Streets. It’s as likely to spit at you as it is to draw you close.

“This record could read like a tragedy, but we want it to feel like a celebration,” Gordon says. “It’s about confronting what’s broken, then owning it.”

Price agrees: “Those words — ‘These violent delights have violent ends’ — sum up who we are. We’ve always known where we’re going. This album proves it.”
