156/Silence share Proxy Idols ahead of From A Distance

“Celebrity worship is more prevalent than ever. People’s obsessive compulsion to follow other people’s lives that they’ll never once meet. It’s almost as sad as it is maddening.”

156/Silence share Proxy Idols as From A Distance takes shape

156/Silence have released Proxy Idols, a new single taken from their forthcoming album From A Distance, due on 4 September 2026 via Pure Noise Records. The track arrives with an official video stream and continues the Pittsburgh band’s run of bleak, cinematic metalcore with a sharper focus on online fixation and celebrity culture.

The band said the song was inspired by the way public obsession is funnelled towards a constant stream of rotating figures. “Celebrity worship is more prevalent than ever. They come and go as they do, being forced into our faces until then the next batch comes through. People’s obsessive compulsion to follow other people’s lives that they’ll never once meet. It’s almost as sad as it is maddening.”

Guest vocals and bigger atmospheric swings

From A Distance is the band’s first album for Pure Noise Records and features guest appearances from Tony Castrati of Crippling Alcoholism, Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada and Alex Reade of Make Them Suffer. Produced by Josh Schroeder, the record pushes further into atmosphere and emotional weight without letting go of the band’s harsher edges.

The title track, according to vocalist Jack Murray, is “a love song” and “probably the most Twin Peaks-inspired song” on the album. Elsewhere, the record takes in celebrity worship on Proxy Idols, manic disruption on Order & Entropy, and intrusive thoughts on Swept from Under (Call of The Void).

The album runs to 12 tracks:

  1. Control Burns
  2. No Arms
  3. Order & Entropy
  4. Swept From Under (Call of The Void)
  5. An Early Exit
  6. Collateral (ft. Tony Castrati of Crippling Alcoholism)
  7. Cannon Fodder (ft. Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada)
  8. Secret Room
  9. Proxy Idols
  10. Phoenix Dies
  11. From A Distance (ft. Alex Reade of Make Them Suffer)
  12. After Dusk
