Hanoi Rocks gather their first five albums and rare recordings in new 6LP and 6CD collection
Hanoi Rocks will collect their formative studio catalogue in a new 6LP and 6CD boxset, The Complete Collection 1981-1984, arriving via BMG on 13 November.
The set brings together the Finnish rock trailblazers’ first five studio albums, from 1981’s Bangkok Shocks, Saigon Shakes, Hanoi Rocks through to 1984’s Two Steps From the Move. It also includes the 2022 40th-anniversary reworking of Oriental Beat, titled The RE(AL)MIX.
A sixth disc, Motorvatin’!!!, gathers rarities from the period, including BBC session recordings of Underwater World and Boulevard of Broken Dreams, alongside previously unreleased demos and the calypso version of Malibu Beach.
Rare photographs and unreleased material
The physical box includes a 36-page photobook packed with rare and previously unseen images, plus art cards reproducing the sleeves from the band’s original run.
Michael Monroe said: “The new Hanoi Rocks Box Set includes all the albums by the original band, including the Oriental Beat 40th Anniversary release The RE(AL)MIX, which came out in 2022.
“There’s also a special extra Bonus LP of rarities, with even some previously unreleased tracks. The artwork has been put together nicely, and it has a vast amount of great, rare and some never-before-seen photos. If someone is not familiar with Hanoi Rocks, this is a fantastic opportunity to get to know the band’s unique material. I recommend this Box Set to everybody!”
The collection captures the band’s lean, combustible early years, when punk snarl, glam flash and hard-rock hooks collided across records including Self Destruction Blues, Back to Mystery City and Two Steps From the Move.
