Girl In The Year Above release Wet Paint following Transgressive signing
Girl In The Year Above have released new single Wet Paint, their first track since signing to Transgressive Records, and confirmed a UK and Ireland headline tour for October.
The new song arrives with a video directed by Dylan Friese-Greene, capturing the band in performance as their melodic guitar lines, piano-led arrangements and Celtic inflections gather around Jennifer Ball’s vocal. Stream Wet Paint here.
A bright sound for a difficult subject
Written collaboratively by Ball and Jeanie, Wet Paint addresses consent, beginning with a lighter touch before gradually revealing the weight of its subject matter.
The band said: “Through writing the lyrics of Wet Paint together – Jen and Jeanie soon realised how painfully relatable this topic is, yet so rarely talked about. The song’s story starts lightly to draw the listener in until you gradually realise it is about consent.
“With a heavy topic it was important to us that the track still felt bright and powerful. We hope it mimics the likeness of anyone who can relate to the track – in the sense that you are bright and powerful no matter what. We would love for this track to bring joy and defiance, feel free to shout/dance/laugh/weep etc.”
Wet Paint is the fourth release from the group, following their version of Massive Attack’s Teardrop, which featured in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, and original singles Mama, My Heart Is Achin’ and Ode To The Glory Days.
October dates include London’s Village Underground
The band will take their largest headline run so far across the UK and Ireland next month, including a London date at Village Underground on 13 October. Brighton’s Hope & Ruin and Leeds’ Headrow House are already sold out.
