Yee Loi set January release for debut album Flicks, licks, party tricks
Yee Loi have announced their debut album, Flicks, licks, party tricks, due for release on 15 January 2027 via Modern Sky UK.
The Liverpool punk trio unveiled the record with a basement set at Yungblud’s Denmark Street store in London on 29 September, tearing through recent singles Social Suicide, Down In The Bunker, Why Ask Why and Mystery Train, alongside unreleased album cuts Miraclist and Picture Perfect. Made up of teenage siblings Rose on guitar and backing vocals, Matilda on drums and vocals, and Don Don on bass, the group’s debut is set to combine Ramones-sized hooks with the ragged, DIY edge heard in their live shows.
A record built for the stage
Matilda said the album’s title reflects the rush of playing at full volume: “The album title is about the joy that comes from playing this high-energy type of music. It makes you wanna go crazy on stage and try to make everyone join in the fun.
“It was important for me to finally put out my own lyrics and melodies and not have to rely on covers. I have quite a lot to say and maybe somebody will be interested!”
Rose added: “My guitar playing on this album is all me and it’s high energy, but you can definitely hear my influences. I’m quite proud of that! The songs on this album show that young girls can play high-intensity guitar rock as good as anybody, if not better!”
Don Don, usually the group’s quietest member, was equally direct about the record’s intent: “I love this album, and I’m fed up of listening to the lightweight, backing-tracked songs that pass for so-called punk rock today.”
Social media fatigue fuels Social Suicide
The album includes Social Suicide, a broadside against the pressure placed on artists to chase online engagement. Rose said: “The more we get involved in music, the more we realise that for many people, musical ability just isn’t enough. A good song now needs every type of social media exposure possible to be able to achieve any success.
“It just seems that people are prepared to sell their souls for views, likes and follows. We just want to make great punk rock and roll songs that move people.”
Flicks, licks, party tricks will be available to pre-order from 5 October.

Joining Transvision Vamp across the UK
Before the album arrives, Yee Loi will support Transvision Vamp on the ’80s pop-punk favourites’ first full UK tour since 1991. The dates were personally selected by Transvision Vamp frontwoman Wendy James.
