Butcher Babies announce Nightbloom and share Blame It on the Wind video

“This new album isn’t about the suffering, it’s about the survival. These songs were born from memories of heartbreak, uncertainty, betrayal, and pain.”

Butcher Babies set 2 October release for Nightbloom with new Blame It on the Wind video

Butcher Babies have announced their new album, Nightbloom, due for release on 2 October via Judge & Jury Records. The record is introduced by the new single Blame It on the Wind, accompanied by an official video.

Blame It on the Wind draws on an unresolved, years-long connection, with vocalist Heidi Shepherd framing the track around desire, denial and the stories people tell themselves to avoid confronting their choices. Watch the video here.

“There are certain nights, certain moments, and certain connections you never fully shake,” Shepherd says. “Blame It on the Wind came from one of those nights that should have disappeared in the morning. In 2012, what started as a one-night stand morphed into a connection that would haunt me for years.

“This song is about a lust you can’t leave, a denial of accountability, and a laundry list of excuses for following the white rabbit. I think sometimes we blame the setting for the choices we make because it’s easier than admitting someone genuinely got under our skin. That’s what this song is about for me.”

Songs shaped in the dark

Produced by Howard Benson, Nightbloom also features co-production from Joe Rickard, Neil Sanderson and Henry Flury. Cameron Pierce Mizell and Evan McKeever provided additional production on Songbird.

Shepherd says the album emerged from a period of therapy and intense personal reflection, as she began writing through memories of heartbreak, grief, estrangement and trauma.

“While reliving and experiencing some of my darkest moments, I started to finally bloom,” she says. “These songs grew and took on life in the dark. In writing these songs, I was able to turn negative experiences in my life into something positive, which in turn gave these memories a new place to live.

“This new album isn’t about the suffering, it’s about the survival. These songs were born from memories of heartbreak, uncertainty, betrayal, and pain. But they’re not just about those subjects, they’re more about what grew because of them. Nightbloom is a reminder that not everything beautiful needs perfect sunshine to flourish.”

Flury adds: “Writing with purpose. That was the overall theme of this album. Each part, layer, lyric was crafted with purpose and focus. Nothing was unimportant. Every detail was created to tell a story with a singular voice. Nightbloom is our most important work we’ve ever done in Butcher Babies.”
