Club Brat take aim at authority on new We Be The Lord EP
Club Brat have released their new EP, We Be The Lord, via Venn Records. The five-track record finds the Peterborough-bred, Bristol and London-based band pushing their jagged dance-punk sound into darker territory, pairing wiry guitars and electronic pulse with a pointed examination of power, ego and public posturing.

The release arrives alongside the video for lead single Dancing With Boys, with the band also sharing a lyric video for opening track Funny. Stream or buy the EP here, watch the video for Dancing With Boys, or watch the Funny lyric video.
A five-track confrontation with power
Frontman Ike McCormick says the EP is concerned with the difference between authority’s public image and its behaviour behind the symbols.
“We Be The Lord explores disillusionment, power and reflection, exposing the gap between what people in positions of authority claim to represent and what they actually embody,” McCormick says. “The EP looks at ego, bravado and moral imbalance, using humour and confrontation to question the virtue and certainty with which people represent themselves.”
Guitarist Joe Smith adds: “It isn’t about religion itself, but the behaviour that sits behind symbols of authority and belief. We Be The Lord explores the contradiction between image and intention – where self-importance and the desire for control can become indistinguishable from the very behaviour they claim to condemn.”
Across the EP, Club Brat draw on fractured post-punk rhythms, noisy garage-rock pressure and dancefloor-minded electronics. The track listing is as follows:
- Funny
- Dancing With Boys
- The Claim (Interlude)
- In War
- Who Were You Before Today
