Free Throw return with The Outlaw Star
Nashville’s most emotionally articulate export, Free Throw, have unveiled their second single ‘The Outlaw Star’, lifted from their forthcoming sixth album Moments Before The Wind, due 27 March 2026 via Wax Bodega.
Built from what the band describe as “the ashes of a failed attempt,” the track pulses with urgency and momentum.
“The Outlaw Star was born from the ashes of a failed attempt while working in the studio. We took the best parts of a broken song and reworked it to fit a faster more complete thought. The pace and power of Outlaw Star complement the entirety of ‘MBTW’.”
It’s a fitting preview of a record that thrives on movement — even when its themes hover in the in-between.
Moments Before The Wind arrives March 2026
On Moments Before The Wind, Free Throw embrace the concept of liminality — emotional hallways, half-open doors, and suspended thoughts. Vocalist and guitarist Cory Castro describes the album as existing in that uneasy space between chapters.
The band reunited with longtime producer Brett Romnes, known for his work with Hot Mulligan and The Movielife, across two recording sessions split by touring. The break provided clarity; the return sparked spontaneity.

Lyrically, the album documents a period of profound personal change for Castro — from the dissolution of a long-term relationship to the life-altering moment of learning he was about to become a father. The closing track, ‘The Waters Of Life’, written in the afterglow of that news, provides a sense of forward motion after emotional stasis.
The album title itself is drawn from House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, referencing fragile structures on the brink of being rearranged by unseen forces — a metaphor mirrored in the record’s fractured, surreal artwork.
