Brighton’s own Lake Malice are back with an electrifying new single, ‘Scatterbrain’, a genre-blurring statement piece tackling the anxieties of a hyperconnected yet disconnected world. With a sound that ricochets between crushing metal riffs and glitchy hyperpop beats, the duo—Alice Guala and Blake Cornwall—are proving once again why they’re one of the most forward-thinking acts in heavy music today.
A Chaotic Anthem for a Chaotic Era
With additional production from Jon Cass, ‘Scatterbrain’ explodes with frenetic energy, pulling from influences as wide-ranging as Enter Shikari, Loathe, Charli XCX, Grimes, and Bring Me The Horizon. The track’s accompanying music video brings its themes to life, visually mirroring the song’s critique of a society obsessed with productivity, superficiality, and the relentless churn of online culture.
Blake Cornwall explains:
“‘Scatterbrain’ is about feeling disillusioned and overwhelmed in modern society. The chant ‘Spin, wash, repeat, mind, soul, body, neat’ reflects the struggle to keep up, leaving little time for real self-care or human connection.”
He continues, pointing out the track’s generational frustrations:
“The line ‘I can’t trust my bank, I’ve no five-year plan, but I’m so good at dreaming’ highlights the unrealistic pressure to achieve the same milestones as previous generations, despite an increasingly unstable world.”

Since their 2023 debut ‘Post-Genesis’, Lake Malice have been tearing through the European live scene, sharing stages with As Everything Unfolds, Bloodywood, Skindred, Vukovi, Vended, and Enter Shikari. Their visceral performances and innovative songwriting have already earned them nominations at the Heavy Music Awards in both 2023 and 2024, alongside heavy rotation on BBC Radio 1, Kerrang!
