Less Than Jake release Another Hostage Situation as Uncharted B-side resurfaces
Less Than Jake have released Another Hostage Situation, a B-side from the band’s 2024 EP Uncharted.
The newly surfaced cut arrives with an official visualiser and finds the Florida ska-punk stalwarts revisiting material from the EP outside its original release. Musically brisk and characteristically sharp-edged, the track channels domestic mayhem into a typically wry hook.
Frontman Chris DeMakes explained that Another Hostage Situation was inspired by chaotic school-run mornings with his young children.
“Hostage Situation is about my son and daughter,” DeMakes said. “At the time I wrote it, they were 7 and 6 years old, respectively. It was inspired by morning time with them, before being sent off to school. Some days it was as smooth as silk, and other days, it was a full-blown thunderstorm. Ya know, the joys of parenting little ones.
“The ‘hostage’ was me, and the ‘situation’ was the chaos of that particular morning. My kids are amazing, and the lyrics are as tongue-in-cheek as you can get.”

US, Australian and New Zealand dates ahead
The release lands as Less Than Jake prepare for a run of shows across the United States, Australia and New Zealand this autumn, beginning with two appearances at Chicago’s Riot Fest. The itinerary then heads through Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland before the band return to the US for December dates.
