Mouth Culture confront ambition and sacrifice on new single Growing Pains
Mouth Culture have released Growing Pains, their first new music of 2026 and a reflective new single examining the strain that comes with committing fully to a band while trying to maintain life beyond it.
Out now via Killabop, the Leicester trio’s latest track arrives ahead of a sold-out Kerrang! show at London’s Barfly on 17 September, followed by a UK run with South Arcade in February 2027. Stream the single here, while the band have also shared a cinematic video for the release.
Walking the line between the band and everything else
Growing Pains finds the three-piece tackling the compromises behind life on the road and the emotional weight of pursuing a long-held goal. Bassist Todd Groome said the song came from recognising how the pressures surrounding the group have shifted over time.
“There’s more to balance now than there was when we started,” Groome explains. “You want to give everything to the band, but you’ve also got relationships, family, friends and everything else happening around it. Sometimes those things pull against each other and you don’t always get it right. I think we’re all learning what chasing this actually asks of you.”
Vocalist Jack Voss adds: “None of us have done this before, so we’re learning as we go. Being away from home, relationships, spending more and more time on the band, you’re trying to work out how all of those things can exist together. You also realise that how something feels to you isn’t necessarily how it feels to the person on the other side of it.”
For guitarist Mason Clifford, the song’s tension is countered by a sense of resolve. “There’s struggle in it, but it’s a hopeful song,” he says. “It’s that feeling that what you’re working towards is just about within reach, even when getting there isn’t straightforward.”
South Arcade dates follow London’s Barfly show
The band’s Barfly appearance this week has sold out, while February will see Mouth Culture join South Arcade for a substantial run through UK venues, including Glasgow’s Barrowlands, Manchester Academy 1 and London’s O2 Brixton Academy.
