Niis channel restless urgency on new single No Flowers
Niis have shared No Flowers, a jagged new single lifted from their forthcoming EP Play Niis, due for release on 23 October via Rise Records.
The Los Angeles band have paired the track with an official video directed and edited by Marië Ramos. Built around a surge of distorted guitars and vocalist Mimi Doe’s repeated plea, “I just wanna feel alive”, No Flowers follows September’s lead single Earthquakes.
Finding feeling in the routine
Doe says the writing on Play Niis confronted the deadening pull of everyday expectation and the need to reclaim a sense of pleasure and connection.
“A lot of the songs on this record are about fitting into societal monotony,” Doe explains. “We forget to put ourselves first by doing things that bring us joy and make us feel something, or anything. And that’s something I really wanted to capture with the lyrics.”
Produced by Austin Coupe and Michael Shuman, the six-track release finds the group bringing more melody and space into their abrasive punk framework. The songs were written amid heartbreak, upheaval and uncertainty, while retaining the sharp-edged force of the band’s earlier material.

US dates with Movements and Balance & Composure
Niis will take Play Niis on the road from 7 October, joining Movements, Balance & Composure and Midrift for a US tour that runs through to a Vans Warped Tour appearance in Orlando. Ticket information is available via the band’s website.
