Rebellion Festival Sells Out Six Months Before Doors Open
There’s no corporate sponsor, no VIP gloss and no compromise. Just punk rock. And this year, it’s enough to send Rebellion Festival into the history books.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the world’s largest independent punk gathering has officially sold out more than six months before it takes over the Winter Gardens in Blackpool from 6–9 August. As punk itself clocks 50 years of noise and defiance, the message is clear: this family-run, fiercely DIY institution isn’t just surviving — it’s thriving.

Icons of the first wave, including The Stranglers, Cock Sparrer, Stiff Little Fingers and Sham 69 will stand shoulder to shoulder with a new generation of bands, proving once again that punk was never a nostalgia act. It’s a living, breathing community.
Organiser Jennie Russell-Smith summed up the milestone with characteristic honesty, calling the early sell-out “wonderful, exciting and if I’m honest, a bit scary.” Three decades in, Rebellion isn’t just an event — it’s a way of life.
The Run Up Begins
To mark the occasion, Rebellion has unveiled a series of special Run Up shows across Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 August, extending the celebrations before the main event even begins.
Tuesday 4 August – Olympia, Winter Gardens
Headlining the opening night is the irrepressible Adam Ant, promising a harder-edged set packed with the hits. Joining him are Derry heroes The Undertones and Scotland’s shimmering post-punk favourites Altered Images.
It’s a bill that bridges eras — punk’s sharp edge colliding with new wave sparkle — and a statement of intent before the main festival even kicks off.

Wednesday 5 August – Ska Night Celebration
Wednesday shifts gears into full-skank territory as Neville Staple leads a high-energy ska throwdown. He’s joined by Arthur Kay & The Originals and Death Of Guitar Pop, promising a room in constant motion.
Daytime Sessions at Viva
The Run Up also introduces intimate daytime shows at Viva on Church Street — an 800-capacity venue running from midday to 5.30pm.
Tuesday’s bill features Tom Robinson alongside guitarist Adam Phillips, delivering stories and songs from half a century on music’s wilder fringes. Expect classics and deep cuts alike. They’re joined by an acoustic set from The Wildhearts, plus appearances from Kirk Brandon and Dave Sharp.
Wednesday welcomes acoustic turns from The Skids, Charlie Harper, TV Smith and Mick Rossi, with David Delinquent & The IOU’s and Jo Carley & The Old Dry Skulls adding to the afternoon’s communal singalong spirit.
A Line-Up Built on Legacy and Fire
Beyond the Run Up, the Winter Gardens stages will host a formidable roll call: Buzzcocks, UK Subs, Discharge, The Chameleons, Ruts DC, and dozens more across multiple stages.
Thirty years on, Rebellion remains fiercely independent, proudly unsponsored and deeply rooted in its community. Selling out half a year early isn’t just a commercial achievement — it’s proof that punk’s heartbeat is louder than ever.
