The Power of 3 announce self-titled debut album led by Hendrix-inspired single Taxi
The Power of 3, the new trio of Orianthi, Cindy Blackman Santana and Rhonda Smith, will release their self-titled debut album on 29 January 2027 via She2Music.
The record is introduced by new single Taxi, a track built around a previously unreleased guitar riff recorded by Jimi Hendrix. Orianthi was granted access to the Hendrix archives alongside producer Eddie Kramer, where she found the fragment that would become the basis for the song.
Rather than presenting the recording as a posthumous Hendrix collaboration, Orianthi recreated the original riff before bringing the idea to Blackman Santana and Smith. The three musicians then wrote and recorded an entirely new piece around it.

From the Hendrix vault to a new power trio track
“Getting to hear something from Jimi that the world hasn’t heard before was pretty incredible,” Orianthi says. “The moment I heard that riff, I knew there was something special there and immediately started imagining what we could do with it.”
She continues: “I brought it to Cindy and Rhonda, and we just took off from there. There’s something really powerful about the three of us creating something new around a piece of music from someone who has inspired us so much. It’s our way of honouring Jimi while making something that’s completely our own.”
Taxi follows the group’s debut double single War In The Streets and Treat Me Like A Lady. Their forthcoming album was produced by Kramer, whose credits include work with Hendrix, David Bowie, KISS and The Rolling Stones, and was recorded entirely in analogue.
Carlos Santana appears on the debut album
The self-titled set will also feature a guest appearance from Carlos Santana. It marks the first full-length release from the trio, whose origins lie in an idea put forward by Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis for Orianthi to form a Band of Gypsys-inspired three-piece.
Orianthi recruited drummer Cindy Blackman Santana and bassist Rhonda Smith, bringing together three players whose collective credits span Prince, Jeff Beck, Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Lenny Kravitz, Alice Cooper and Santana. The group have previously performed at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
