The Scarlet Goodbye ignite retro sparks with She’s A Fire
Minnesota act The Scarlet Goodbye have unveiled their latest single “She’s A Fire”, offering the first glimpse of their forthcoming third album and arriving just days before the duo embark on an extensive UK and Ireland tour.
The single “She’s A Fire” is a delicious slice of sixties freakbeat which, were it not for the superior production, could easily have come from one of the “Nuggets” albums. The track features spiky guitars that wouldn’t sound out of place on The Beatles’ “Revolver”, together with harmonies that carry an undeniable flavour of The Byrds and The Kinks.
It’s a confident and vibrant statement from a project that continues to evolve while wearing its influences proudly.

A partnership born in an attic studio
The Scarlet Goodbye is the creative collaboration between two established Minnesota musicians: Soul Asylum founder and Golden Smog member Dan Murphy, and singer-songwriter Jeff Arundel. Their partnership began almost by chance, eventually taking shape in Murphy’s attic studio in St. Paul.
Arundel has often drawn comparisons with classic singer-songwriters such as James Taylor and Jackson Browne. Yet when paired with Murphy’s guitar instincts, the results lean more towards melodic college rock and jangling Americana.
Their debut album Hopes Eternal introduced the duo’s distinctive blend of styles, fusing storytelling songwriting with classic rock textures — part Rolling Stones swagger, part Townes Van Zandt reflection. That sound developed further on last year’s El Camino Adios, released through The Label Group/Virgin, which showcased a wider emotional and musical range.
Leading the charge toward album number three
Now back in the attic studio once again, the pair are preparing to unveil their third LP. “She’s A Fire” leads the charge with searing guitar riffs, rich harmonies, and lyrical nods to Carnaby Street and the psychedelic pop of The Zombies.
If the single is any indication, the upcoming album promises another strong chapter in the band’s steadily growing catalogue.
With creative momentum firmly behind them, The Scarlet Goodbye will spend much of 2026 on the road, starting with a run of dates across the UK and Ireland this March. Scottish rock outfit Overhaul will join them as support throughout the tour.
