Tom Morello sets September album with Serj Tankian, Kneecap and Beartooth

“I make anti-racist songs for anti-racists. I make anti-fascist songs for anti-fascists. And I make anti-Nazi songs for anti-Nazis.”

Tom Morello announces new album Everyone Gets Everything They Want with Date Night

Tom Morello will release his first solo rock album, Everyone Gets Everything They Want, on 25 September via Mom + Pop Music. The 12-track record includes contributions from Serj Tankian, Kneecap, Beartooth and Morello’s son Roman Morello.

The announcement arrives alongside new single Date Night, a politically charged track centred on the wartime resistance work of Dutch sisters Truus and Freddie Oversteegen and their friend Hannie Schaft. The three women acted as spies and saboteurs against the Nazi occupation, helping Jewish children escape persecution and carrying out attacks on Nazi officers.

Morello said: “I make anti-racist songs for anti-racists. I make anti-fascist songs for anti-fascists. And I make anti-Nazi songs for anti-Nazis. Date Night is really a ‘which side are you on?’ song. If any of that offends you, do the math. Oh, and Roman Morello wrote the killer riff in this tune.”

Roman Morello appears across the record

Roman Morello, who is 15, shares writing credits on five songs, adding riffs and guitar solos to the album. The record was produced by Tyler Smyth, Carl Restivo, Zakk Cervini, Dan Carey and Sam Nelson Harris.

Morello had previously previewed the album with Adjourn It, which features Tankian and Roman Morello. The song addresses racism and anti-immigrant prejudice, with its video incorporating footage from the 1954 film Salt of the Earth.
