Luvcat Sharpens Her Dark Pop Bite on Lovebites

“I was thinking of how love is very much like Carbon Monoxide or black mould. You can’t see it but sometimes it’s slowly, quietly poisoning you. An invisible assassin.”

Luvcat Teams With Pete Doherty and Dr John Cooper Clarke on Lovebites

Luvcat has released Lovebites, a shadowy new spin-off EP of murder ballads and vampiric love songs, out now via AWAL. The four-track release extends the world of her debut album Vicious Delicious, twisting its noir glamour into something more sinister, theatrical and blood-warm.

Featuring collaborations with Pete Doherty and Dr John Cooper Clarke, Lovebites finds the Liverpool-born songwriter leaning deeper into the macabre romance that has become her calling card: sharp wit, fatal devotion and melodies dressed in red lipstick after midnight.

A Sinister Expansion of the Luvcat Universe

The EP’s focus track, “Silent Killer,” is a sprawling, cinematic piece built around flawless string arrangements and a near-fatal moment from Luvcat’s own life. The song recounts a carbon monoxide leak in her old Camberwell flat, where an invisible threat nearly killed the songwriter and her bandmates.

That real-life danger becomes a metaphor for poisoned love. In Luvcat’s hands, romance is not soft-focus fantasy but something creeping, unseen and potentially lethal. The result is a murder ballad that feels both intimate and grandly gothic.

Lovebites

Vampires, Anniversaries and Electric Chairs

Lovebites also includes last month’s haunting “Vampire At The Beach,” which arrived with a Sweeney Todd-esque video and drew praise for its blood-soaked alt-pop seduction.

Elsewhere, punk poet Dr John Cooper Clarke appears on “He’s My Man (The Anniversary),” a pitch-black duet marking one year since the original track’s release. The collaboration emerged after Luvcat and Clarke met at the Northern Music Awards, bonding over a shared taste for dark, witty storytelling.

The EP closes with “Electric Chair,” a dramatic confessional featuring Pete Doherty. The song was born during Luvcat’s time on the road with Doherty, a travelling-circus stretch of shows through France involving adoring crowds, paintings, magazines, dogs and spontaneous stage moments.

A Rising Star With Teeth

Since her debut single “Matador,” Luvcat has built a fast-growing global following around a sound that blends cabaret danger, indie sleaze, noir-pop drama and open-hearted vulnerability.

Her 2025 debut album Vicious Delicious reached number 4 on the Official Independent Albums Chart, while her live momentum has only intensified. Across 2025, she played more than 101 shows in over 25 countries, including appearances at Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds, Radio 1’s Big Weekend and Rock en Seine, where she opened the main stage for Chappell Roan.

With Lovebites, Luvcat does not simply add a companion piece to her debut. She lets the shadows lengthen, the strings swell and the romance draw blood.
