Tony Iommi announces From The Dark and shares World Alone

“It’s an album we’ve really enjoyed making. We’re not trying to prove anything – it’s a great album, it rocks!”

Tony Iommi sets October release for From The Dark as World Alone arrives

Tony Iommi has announced his new solo album, From The Dark, due for release on 23 October via BMG. The record is introduced by its first single, World Alone, which pairs Iommi’s familiar down-tuned riff work with vocals from Norwegian singer Jorn Lande.

World Alone received its premiere at a streaming event in Birmingham, held close to Black Sabbath Bridge. Its accompanying video follows a protagonist known as The Believer through a retro-futurist dystopia, framing the song’s hard-driving guitars and dramatic vocal performance in a videogame-inspired setting.

A new Iommi record built around riffs and drama

From The Dark was co-produced by Iommi and Mike Exeter, with Lande sharing writing credits across the album. The line-up also includes bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil.

Iommi said: “It’s an album we’ve really enjoyed making. We’re not trying to prove anything – it’s a great album, it rocks!”

The eight-track record opens with Over The Violent Sun and moves through the punchy Black Times before arriving at World Alone. Elsewhere, Beyond The Dead is described as bringing orchestral detail to a more measured, ominous riff, while Stormwatcher and Death Wake draw on the album’s darker themes of isolation, mortality and survival.
