Boundaries release uncompromising new album Yearning: the unbeautiful after
Boundaries have released their new album, Yearning: the unbeautiful after, via Sumerian Records. The 14-track record arrives alongside a lyric video for its title track, bringing the Connecticut heavy outfit’s latest wave of abrasive, emotionally charged material into focus.
The album was recorded in autumn 2025 with producer Drew Fulk, whose previous work includes releases by Knocked Loose and Fit For A King. It features guest appearances from The Plot In You’s Landon Tewers on Crowned and crucified, alongside Make Them Suffer’s Sean Harmanis and Alex Reade on Torn open wide.
Vocalist Matthew McDougal said the band wanted the record to lean into extremity rather than compromise its impact.
“With the record, we aimed to be uncompromising and really plant our flag,” McDougal explains. “As more time passes, heavy music continues to lose its teeth. This genre is supposed to be threatening; it should have an edge and make you feel something. We tried to create an album with urgency.”
He added that the band approached the writing process with a desire to “spend less time in the middle and more time trying to bring out those extremes, to show our full breadth of what we think we’re capable of.”
