Karen Dió marks Fugaz release with new single Choke and UK headline dates

Karen Dió has released her second EP, Fugaz, through Hopeless Records, accompanied by the combative new single Choke and a September run of UK headline shows.

The six-track EP follows earlier singles Sick Ride and Free Yourself, with Dió framing the record around change, impermanence and living in the present. Its title takes its name from the Portuguese word for something fleeting, brief or transient.

“The word ‘fugaz’ is Portuguese for fleeting, brief, transient or short-lived,” Dió says. “Life itself is ‘fugaz’, it goes really fast and changes all the time. This EP is about me dealing with that in the last couple of years. All the fast changes that have happened to my life, my body, my career and the world around me.

“A reminder to myself that life is not about what is about to happen, but what is happening right now because that’s all we have.”

Choke takes aim at the noise

Released alongside the EP, Choke is a sharp-edged punk-rock cut built around Dió’s refusal to be dragged into other people’s hostility. A visualiser has also been released for the track.

“I believe that my best revenge when people talk shit about me is to let them be themselves, show their real faces and bite their own tongue, while I continue just doing my own thing, writing bangers,” she says.

Fugaz is available to stream now via the official release link.

Six songs shaped by transience

The EP moves through themes of personal freedom, time and the instability of everyday life, closing with its title track. The full track listing is below.

  1. Euphoria
  2. Free Yourself
  3. Choke
  4. Crawling
  5. Rat Race
  6. Fugaz

Dió will bring the EP to UK stages in September, beginning at Glasgow’s King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut before heading through Manchester, London and Brighton. The London date takes place at the 100 Club on 9 September.

She will also play Spain’s Canela Party Festival later this month, before joining Foo Fighters for two Brazilian stadium dates in February 2027. Tickets are on sale now.
