Millie Manders and The Shutup Rage Against Ageism on New Single

“Ageing, especially in front of the media or an audience, and even more so as a woman, is still largely seen as something we should all disapprove of.”

Millie Manders and The Shutup take on ageism with Age Disgracefully and intimate UK tour

Millie Manders and The Shutup have released their new single Age Disgracefully, a sharp-edged blast of punk, pop hooks and righteous frustration aimed squarely at the pressures surrounding ageing. The track arrives ahead of the band’s October and November UK headline tour.

Written from a deeply personal place, Age Disgracefully finds Manders confronting the particularly unforgiving scrutiny faced by women in public life, while turning that anger into a call for greater self-compassion.

“Ageing, especially in front of the media or an audience, and even more so as a woman, is still largely seen as something we should all disapprove of,” says Millie Manders. “I have spent most of my life tearing myself apart in front of the mirror so I wrote these lyrics in part to try and shake myself, in part to inspire others to be kinder to themselves, and as a whole heap of f**k you to the amount of anti-ageing adverts I am bombarded with on a daily basis.”

The accompanying video is also now available to watch. Watch the video for Age Disgracefully here.

A return to the small rooms

The forthcoming run deliberately takes the band back into more intimate grassroots spaces after a spell playing larger rooms and festival stages. Each leg of the tour brings a different support act into the fold, with Manchester’s The Empty Page, London duo Bugeye, Cheltenham’s TOAST and fellow London outfit Tokyo Taboo joining the bill across the dates.

Manders says: “Coming back to grassroots venues with a smaller capacity than we have been playing recently is going to be so wonderfully intense and intimate. We will be bringing our melting pot of party and rage as we Age Disgracefully in a time that is so unforgiving in so many ways.”

Tickets are available via Millie Manders and The Shutup’s official website.
