RØRY shares STRANGE video as BLOODLETTING nears

“I realised I was sick from being nice. I’d spent so much of my life being the bigger person, forgiving people, understanding people, making excuses for people. BLOODLETTING was about reclaiming them.”

RØRY unveils the STRANGE video ahead of September album BLOODLETTING

RØRY has released the official video for STRANGE, the latest single to be lifted from her forthcoming second album BLOODLETTING, which lands on 4 September via SADCØRE RECORDS.

The new clip arrives just days after the album was announced, with STRANGE continuing the run of recent singles that also includes DEGRADATION, DEAD GIRL WALKING and KIDS THESE DAYS. Stream the single here.

A rooftop callback with a different perspective

Speaking about the video, RØRY said: “We went back to do a rooftop performance which references an old video of mine. But coming back to it from a totally different place. One that feels so much more alive.

“I love doing band performance videos, they always bring so much energy and allow for a lot of secret messages to be written on the t-shirts…”

That sense of revisiting old ground from a changed position runs through the song itself. In the material around BLOODLETTING, RØRY frames the record around emotions she had previously kept at arm’s length, with anger and resentment pushed to the front rather than buried underneath the usual survival narrative.

The album’s central wound

On the new record, she said: “I realised I was sick from being nice. I’d spent so much of my life being the bigger person, forgiving people, understanding people, making excuses for people. I’d become disconnected from huge parts of myself. BLOODLETTING was about reclaiming them.”

The album title draws on the old medical practice of releasing blood to treat illness, which RØRY has repurposed as a metaphor for emotional release. Sonically, the record is described as a heavier turn, with RØRY again working with Kingdoms and bringing in additional production and mixing from Dan Lancaster.

She is also set for a Download Festival main stage debut this weekend, adding another major live marker to the album build-up.

What’s on BLOODLETTING

The 13-track record pulls together the recent singles and adds a string of new titles, including the bracketed interludes that suggest a more sharply structured album than a simple singles collection. Pre-order the album here.
