Villanelle share gritty new single Some Chew Lip before November UK headline run

Villanelle have released Some Chew Lip, a wiry, garage-rocking new single that arrives as the band prepare for another run of North American festival appearances, headline dates and support slots with Billy Idol.

Built around pogoing rhythms, an elastic bassline and a dense blast of guitars, Some Chew Lip moves beyond the grunge-heavy sound of the band’s debut EP Measly Means. The track has already become a regular fixture in Villanelle’s live set, with its full-throttle closing section designed for the sweatier end of the room.

Gene Gallagher said: “Some Chew Lip is about someone who you love who is a very unique character who is acting up like an idiot.”

A road-tested new cut

The single follows a busy year for the four-piece, whose recent festival appearances have included Reading & Leeds and Outbreak. Villanelle will now head back across North America for dates taking in Shaky Knees, Ohana Festival and Austin City Limits, alongside headline club shows in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Arizona, Dallas and Austin.

The itinerary also includes shows with Billy Idol in Dallas and Tulsa. At Ohana Festival in California, the band will appear on a bill featuring Pearl Jam, Pixies and Fontaines D.C.
