Amon Amarth unleash Gjallarhorn as they announce The Allfather Awakens and October UK shows
Amon Amarth have announced their 13th studio album, The Allfather Awakens, which arrives on 2 October through Metal Blade Records. The Swedish metal band have also unveiled the record’s opening track, Gjallarhorn, alongside an official video.
The ten-track album follows the band’s acoustic detour Upphaf, but Gjallarhorn brings the pace sharply back up: a riff-led, high-tempo cut built around a forceful chorus and Norse mythology. Its title refers to the horn sounded to herald Ragnarök, while the accompanying story draws on Oden’s sacrifice of an eye in exchange for wisdom at Mímisbrunnr.
Oden takes centre stage
Although Oden remains the central figure across the album’s lyrics and artwork, The Allfather Awakens is not billed as a concept record. Instead, the songs draw on historical and mythological stories of war, sacrifice and survival, with titles including Eight Legs Of Thunder, Kvasir’s Blood, Die With A War Cry and Oden’s Hunt.
The album was recorded across two sessions at producer Jacob Hansen’s studio in Denmark, beginning in spring 2025 and concluding in March 2026. The band wrote material while on the road and adopted a track-by-track recording process, completing each song before moving to the next.
Guitarist Olavi Mikkonen says: “We worked on one song at a time and made each song as good as possible. Then we recorded one song at a time until each track was totally finished — drums, guitars, and vocals. Only then did we start on the next one.”
Mikkonen also notes that the band moved away from 5150 amplifiers for the sessions, instead returning to Marshall amps for a less modern guitar sound. The artwork, meanwhile, is another portrait of Oden by Tom Thiel, who has previously created seven Amon Amarth album covers.

The record opens with Gjallarhorn and includes the previously released acoustic piece Upphaf at its midpoint.

The Allfather Awakens will be available on CD, vinyl, cassette and digital platforms. UK collectors will be able to pick up an HMV-exclusive Silence Of The Fallen splatter vinyl edition.

UK dates launch the Allfather Awakens tour
Amon Amarth will take the new material on the road this autumn with Orbit Culture and Soilwork. The European run begins with three UK dates, taking in Manchester, London and Wolverhampton before moving across the continent.
