BEX Drops Hard-Hitting New Single “Sum Kinda Syko”
Nu-punk powerhouse BEX is back with another bass-heavy banger and this time she’s getting personal. Her new single, “Sum Kinda Syko,” is a raw and unapologetic reflection on harassment and the boundaries that were crossed in her own experience. With its unmistakable intensity, this track adds to her growing reputation for fusing blunt lyrics with high-octane punk energy.
Speaking about the meaning behind the song, BEX shares,
“’Syko’ represents someone who crossed boundaries. What started as admiration slowly turned into something overwhelming over the course of two years… One night, things escalated beyond what I could ignore, and I realized I was in a dangerous situation. ‘Sum Kinda Syko’ reflects my experience with harassment, unwanted attention, and how this person couldn’t accept boundaries.”
The track’s brash, unapologetic nature serves as a wake-up call about the dangers of ignoring red flags, all while staying true to BEX’s playful, darkly comedic lyrical style. “Every single lyric is true and meaningful. This track is a lyrical masterpiece, it’s so blunt and honestly comedic when you read the lyrics alone,” she adds.
A Nu-Punk Icon with Boundless Creativity
BEX’s talent isn’t confined to her music alone. She’s a fiercely DIY artist, creating everything from music videos to her own merch, including a CD release of “Sum Kinda Syko” bundled with her 2024 singles and a collection of hand-designed items like t-shirts, beanies, and a zine. Her approach to punk embraces an entire visual and creative world, with every element designed by BEX herself. Whether it’s her patchworked bass guitar or creepy doll-adorned stage sets, BEX is redefining punk aesthetics with her unique vision.
Her previous singles “Taste Better,” “sunDae,” and “Fight” have earned her spots on BBC Radio 1 and Kerrang! Radio, following the release of her explosive debut EP SCUM in late 2023. That EP catapulted her into the spotlight, and she’s only been gaining momentum since, with incendiary performances at festivals like 2000trees, The Great Escape, Download, and Burn It Down.
