Karen Dió Drops Fiery Punk Cover of Chappell Roan’s ‘Stupid’ Ahead of UK Festival Run

“When I was working on the version of “Casual” I didn’t want to simply do a cheap punk rock version of her song, I wanted it to really kick ass.”

Punk-Rock Sensation Tackles Chappell Roan and Pitty Ahead of Major Summer Festivals

After tearing through Europe with Limp Bizkit, rising Brazilian punk star Karen Dió is keeping the fire burning with two electrifying covers—one in English, one in Portuguese—premiered via Amazon’s Artists to Watch 2025 series. The releases find Dió paying homage to two of her biggest musical influences: American alt-pop powerhouse Chappell Roan and Brazilian rock icon Pitty.

For her English-language pick, Dió took on Roan’s “Casual”, reimagining it through a cathartic punk-rock lens. “I didn’t want to simply do a cheap punk rock version,” Karen says. “I wanted it to really kick ass… There is nothing more punk than Drag Queens and queer love.”

The second cover, “I Wanna Be” by Pitty, is a personal deep cut. “She is an icon! I remember myself, when I was 13 years old, listening to this song over and over again on my Walkman,” Karen recalls. “The lyrics are so real!”

With a chaotic, genre-blending energy that’s helped her amass viral success—particularly with her breakout 2023 single “Sick Ride”—Karen Dió is rapidly becoming a global voice in modern punk. Her recent signing to Hopeless Records and shoutouts from legends like Sum 41 and Fred Durst have only cemented her path forward.

Having lived a transient, uprooted life, Dió channels that restless energy into every performance. “I have to be so unattached to friends, things, and objects,” she says. “It’s crazy to see millions of people connecting with what I do.”

With major UK festival slots lined up—including Download Festival, 2000 Trees, and Burn It Down—Karen Dió is proudly waving the flag for Brazil’s punk scene and Latin American representation on global stages.
