Miss May I tackle exploitation and exhaustion on new single Highbrow Thieves
Miss May I have shared Highbrow Thieves, a bruising new track from their forthcoming eighth studio album, No Place For Me.
Due out on 2 October through Solid State Records, No Place For Me is the Ohio metalcore band’s first album for the label. Highbrow Thieves arrives with an official video and leans into the group’s familiar weight of serrated riffs and heavy grooves, while placing a sharply defined theme at its centre: the erosion of personal time under relentless work and authority.
Vocalist Levi Benton said: “‘Highbrow Thieves’ is written from the perspective of someone worked to the bone, taking orders from people with no remorse for who they’re giving them to. The ‘thieves’ here aren’t after riches or objects, what they’re really stealing is something far more valuable: Time.”
A record shaped by identity and anxiety
Written across two years with longtime collaborator Nick Sampson, No Place For Me finds the band addressing identity, anxiety, self-doubt and resilience. Benton has described the record as a personal examination rather than a retreat into abstraction.
“No Place For Me is everything I’ve felt for a long time but never had the words for,” Benton said. “Writing it taught me who I actually am even when that hurt to look at. It’s a full journey: Where it started, what I discovered, and where I am today.”
Elsewhere, Benton explained the band’s intention to make space for vulnerability within the album’s heavier framework: “We stopped and asked ourselves, ‘What are we actually trying to say as artists?’ The goal is for the music to be therapeutic. It’s okay to have a breakdown. You aren’t alone. You don’t have to hold it all in. I hope our latest album can meet you where you are.”
