Taxi Girls Tear Through Tension on New Single “Secret Handshake”
Montreal’s Taxi Girls are back with “Secret Handshake,” a charged new single and video out now via Stomp Records. The track is the latest preview of the band’s forthcoming album Static, set for release on June 26, 2026.
Following the punchy arrival of debut single “Say It,” “Secret Handshake” pushes the band’s sound into even sharper territory. If the first track kicked open the door, this one sounds like Taxi Girls ripping through the frame.

Montreal garage punk with teeth
Formed in 2022, the all-female garage punk outfit has quickly become a force within Montreal’s underground scene. Their sound carries the sweat and spark of packed basement shows, blown speakers, late-night street corners, and the kind of rock ’n’ roll energy that feels lived-in rather than polished smooth.
There are flashes of The Runaways, Bikini Kill, The Donnas, L7, and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts in the DNA, but Taxi Girls are not simply recreating the past. They are taking that lineage and dragging it through their own city, louder, faster, and with plenty of attitude.
A sharp hit of tension and release
“Secret Handshake” runs on blown-out guitars, a ripping solo, and a rhythm section that keeps the whole thing teetering on the edge. Vocalists Jamie Radu and Vera trade lines with bite, creating a push-pull dynamic that gives the track its friction.
Lyrically, the song digs into fractured communication, hidden expectations, and the quiet roles people fall into just to keep things from collapsing. It is vulnerable without softening its edges, defiant without losing its hook-driven punch.

Static is coming
The new single offers another look at Static, Taxi Girls’ upcoming full-length album. Across the material teased so far, the band sound tighter and more focused, while keeping the rough, immediate charm that made their name spread in the first place.
That momentum has been building quickly. Over the past year, Taxi Girls have shared stages with NOBRO, NOFX, Lagwagon, The Hives, Billy Talent, and Pansy Division, earning attention through loud shows, word of mouth, and a reputation that sticks. The band have also reached international ears thanks to support from Iggy Pop on his BBC 6 Music show.
With “Secret Handshake,” Taxi Girls sound like a band locking fully into their identity. It is sharp, scrappy, hook-heavy garage punk with a power-pop kick and no interest in cleaning up the mess.
