Mayday Parade announce Sugar as the final part of their three-album trilogy
Mayday Parade have announced Sugar, the third and final instalment in their three-part album trilogy, due for release on 24 July 2026.
The record arrives with new single Weekend Music and its official video, bringing the band’s 20th anniversary era towards its close after a near two-year run of writing, recording and releasing close to 30 songs.
A late-career spark on Weekend Music
Built around bright melodies and one of the record’s more uplifting turns, Weekend Music sets out the sound of Sugar: reflective, melodic and still wired for impact. It follows the earlier trilogy releases Sweet and Sad, with the new album intended to pull together the more immediate and introspective sides of the project.
Speaking about the single, lead vocalist Derek Sanders said: “When we began working on Sugar – part three of a three album release – I started to get concerned that we had overextended ourselves. That the good ideas had run dry and needed more time to replenish. Weekend Music is one of the songs that came together and put me at ease, it has the catchiness and complexity that I was looking for. It feels good to be able to create a song that we’re proud of so deep into our career.”
Sugar completes the trilogy
Produced by longtime collaborators Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount, Sugar spans 10 tracks and moves through several shades of the band’s sound. Alongside Weekend Music, the album includes the moodier Lying To Myself, the polished groove of Two Hearts, the trilogy-referencing Sweet Sad Sugar and closing track What Happens Next.
