Yungblud releases live Riviera Theatre version of Zombie with Billy Corgan
YUNGBLUD has released a live rendition of Zombie featuring Billy Corgan, recorded at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre and accompanied by an official performance video.
The release captures Yungblud and The Smashing Pumpkins frontman performing their reworked take on the track in an intimate theatre setting. According to the announcement, it is the only occasion on which the pair have played the reimagined version together live.
The performance was recorded on 30 July in Chicago, during the week that saw Yungblud appear at Lollapalooza ahead of The Smashing Pumpkins’ Friday-night headline set.
A Chicago collaboration brought to the stage
Zombie originally appeared on Yungblud’s album IDOLS, before being revisited with The Smashing Pumpkins. The studio reworking was produced by Matt Schwartz and Corgan, with Smashing Pumpkins members Jimmy Chamberlin and James Iha contributing drums and guitar, respectively.
The new live release foregrounds the collision between Yungblud’s original vocal and Corgan’s distinctive presence, with the Riviera Theatre performance giving the song a rougher, concert-stage edge than its recorded counterpart.
