Alice Cooper announces definitive autobiography Devil on My Shoulder
Shock rock pioneer Alice Cooper has announced the release of his long-awaited autobiography Devil on My Shoulder, arriving 8th October 2026 via Ebury Spotlight. Alongside the book’s publication, the legendary performer will embark on an intimate eight-date UK speaking tour where fans can hear stories from his extraordinary six-decade career.
The hardback memoir promises a deep dive into one of rock music’s most theatrical and unpredictable lives. For generations, Cooper has embodied two seemingly incompatible personas: the sinister, snake-wielding stage villain and Vincent Damon Furnier, the pastor’s son behind the makeup. Devil on My Shoulder explores how those two identities collided, blurred, and nearly destroyed each other along the way.

Across its pages, Cooper revisits the wild creative explosion that defined his career, from pioneering shock rock theatrics to navigating the excesses of fame. The book promises tales of guillotines and snakes, legendary parties and near disasters, as well as encounters with cultural giants including Salvador Dalí, John Lennon, Groucho Marx, Jimi Hendrix and Andy Warhol.
The angel and the devil
Originally born Vincent Damon Furnier, Cooper eventually adopted the name of his stage persona permanently as the Alice Cooper band rose to global prominence in the early 1970s. The transformation blurred the line between performer and character, turning Alice Cooper into both a myth and a man.
With the benefit of hindsight, sobriety and decades of perspective, the musician now looks back on that journey with candour and humour. The memoir charts the rise of the Alice Cooper band in the late 60s, the explosive run of classic albums that followed, and the personal battles that nearly derailed everything.
The book also promises reflections on addiction, fame, and redemption, with Cooper examining the chaos of rock stardom alongside the stability he eventually found away from the stage.
A rare evening with Alice Cooper
To celebrate the book’s release, Cooper will tour the UK for a series of special events throughout October 2026. Each night will feature the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee in conversation with a guest moderator, followed by a Q&A with the audience.
Tickets include entry to the event as well as a copy of the autobiography.

A career that defined shock rock
Few artists have shaped rock theatre quite like Alice Cooper. From the early 1970s classics Love It to Death, Killer and School’s Out to the chart-topping Billion Dollar Babies and the arena-sized comeback Trash, his catalogue has sold more than 50 million records worldwide.
Beyond the music, Cooper’s influence stretches across pop culture, with appearances ranging from Wayne’s World to stage productions of Jesus Christ Superstar. His theatrical live shows — complete with elaborate props, horror imagery and dark humour — helped establish the blueprint for modern shock rock.
Even after six decades on the road, Cooper continues to tour relentlessly, maintaining a reputation as one of rock’s most enduring live performers.
