Sleep Theory give Bye Bye Bye a heavy studio overhaul

A live-set curveball has made it into the studio, with Sleep Theory recasting *NSYNC’s turn-of-the-millennium pop hit as a heavier, hook-loaded alt-rock cut.

Sleep Theory have released a studio version of their cover of *NSYNC’s Bye Bye Bye, bringing one of the more unexpected staples of their live set into sharper recorded focus.

The track arrives in the wake of the band’s recent appearance at Download Festival, where their crossover of alt-rock weight and pop precision landed in front of a major UK festival crowd. Their take on Bye Bye Bye has become a regular feature at shows, turning the 2000 pop hit into a riff-driven, high-energy crowd moment without losing the song’s instantly recognisable hook.

A pop hit with heavier edges

Rather than treating the cover as a throwaway diversion, Sleep Theory lean into the contrast that has shaped much of their recent work: big melodic choruses, tight rhythmic punch and a production style that sits comfortably between modern rock, metal and pop. The studio version of Bye Bye Bye follows the band’s debut album Afterglow, released last spring.

Afterglow was produced by David Cowell and mixed by Zakk Cervini, whose credits include Bring Me The Horizon, Bad Omens and Architects. The album followed the band’s earlier EP and has been part of a busy run that has also included US rock radio success, a Best New Rock Artist win at the iHeart Radio Awards, a sold-out debut European headline tour and two sold-out North American headline runs.
