Taxi Girls line up garage rock hooks and power-pop punch on debut album Static
Taxi Girls have released their debut full-length Static, out now via Stomp Records, alongside a video for Midnight Mixtape, the record’s release-week focus track.
The Montreal band have spent the past year cutting through the North American punk circuit with live sets alongside NOBRO, NOFX, Lagwagon, The Hives, Billy Talent and Pansy Division, while drawing a shout-out from Iggy Pop on BBC 6 Music. Static gathers ten tracks that sit between garage rock bite and power-pop lift, with twin vocals and sharp, fast-moving melodies doing much of the work.

A debut built on hooks and bruised edges
The album brings together the band’s love of The Runaways, Girlschool, Nikki Corvette and The Donnas without sounding like a roll call of references. Tracks such as Say It!, Secret Handshake and Midnight Mixtape lean into stomp-and-sing-along momentum, but the lyrics also dig into mental health, postpartum depression, self-doubt, loss and the uneasy comfort of nostalgia.

According to the band, Static is about the tension between being stuck and still moving forward. That runs through the record’s title and artwork, including the lemon on the cover, which the press release describes as a way of turning setbacks into something livable rather than pretending they are not there.
The public stream is available here, while the album and merchandise can be ordered via the band’s Bandcamp page.
