Saxon set 25th studio album Gods Of Thunder for January release with UK dates confirmed
Saxon have announced their 25th studio album, Gods Of Thunder, due for release through Silver Lining Music on 22 January 2027.
The British heavy metal institution have also shared the album’s title track, an anthemic new single drawing on Celtic mythology. The accompanying video is available now, with the band preparing to take the record on the road across the UK and Ireland in February.
Frontman Biff Byford said: “Gods of Thunder is a mighty tale of Celtic mythology, packed with the spirit and power of true heavy metal. Turn it up and bang your head!”
Produced by Byford and mixed by Andy Sneap, Gods Of Thunder is said to move between historical narratives, ancient mythology, horror and espionage. Among its ten tracks are The Bloody Tower (The Ballad of Anne Boleyn), centred on the execution of Anne Boleyn, and the myth-driven Medusa.
History, myth and a twin-guitar charge
The album also includes Remember the Alamo, which channels the speed and attack of early NWOBHM, while Temple of Rock puts the twin-guitar partnership of Doug Scarratt and Brian Tatler to the fore. Closing track MI5 takes in Cold War intrigue and the Berlin Wall.
“We had great fun making this album,” Byford said. “This is gonna be one to beat!”
The current line-up of Byford, Scarratt, Tatler, drummer Nigel Glockler and bassist Nibbs Carter will bring the new material to venues across Britain, with a Dublin date also included on the first leg of the Gods Of Thunder World Tour.
