RØRY unveils ‘SWALLOW’ and announces biggest UK headline tour

“I wanted the video to physically go to that same place. I’m suffocating under a plastic bag and drowning in a bath. I pushed it way too far.”

RØRY confronts grief on new single SWALLOW ahead of BLOODLETTING release

RØRY has shared SWALLOW, a stark new single taken from her forthcoming second album BLOODLETTING, due for release on 11 September via Sadcøre Records.

The track is the final preview of the record, following recent singles DEGRADATION, DEAD GIRL WALKING, KIDS THESE DAYS and STRANGE. Leaning into a heavier edge, SWALLOW centres on the disorienting weight of grief and the struggle to keep moving through it.

Its accompanying video takes that emotional premise into deliberately uncomfortable territory, with RØRY filmed beneath a plastic bag and submerged in a bath. The artist says the shoot became more physically demanding than expected.

SWALLOW is about the place grief can take you, where you feel suspended somewhere between life and death,” she says. “You don’t actually want to die, but there’s this fucked up thought that if you did, at least you’d be where they are. And at the same time, you have no idea how you’re supposed to keep living without them.

“I wanted the video to physically go to that same place. I’m suffocating under a plastic bag and drowning in a bath. I pushed it way too far. I ended up passing out on set, which has never happened to me before. But actually, the intensity of capturing that in the performance made it feel painfully real… like I’d managed to put the physical sensation of grief on camera.”

A record built from rage and release

BLOODLETTING was produced with long-term collaborators KINGDOMS, with additional production and mixing from Dan Lancaster. The album finds RØRY pushing further into heavy music while keeping the close-up, confessional writing at the centre of her work.

RØRY – BLOODLETTING

“I realised I was sick from being nice,” RØRY says of the record’s creation. “I’d spent so much of my life being the bigger person, forgiving people, understanding people, making excuses for people. I’d become disconnected from huge parts of myself. BLOODLETTING was about reclaiming them.”

The 13-track album will include the following:

  1. [welcome to bloodletting]
  2. DEGRADATION
  3. SWALLOW
  4. a cure for cancer
  5. MORTAL
  6. [the death of a people pleaser]
  7. KIDS THESE DAYS
  8. DEAD GIRL WALKING
  9. GREY
  10. [oh when the saints]
  11. hometown
  12. STRANGE
  13. [do you want to live?]
