Stereolab Lead Expansive First Wave for Brighton Psych Fest 2026
Brighton’s late-summer sonic pilgrimage returns with a characteristically adventurous first announcement. Brighton Psych Fest 2026 lands on Friday 4 September, unveiling an opening wave led by the ever-innovative Stereolab, West Coast psych revivalists Allah-Las and Mercury-nominated auteur Gwenno.

Now entering its third year, the city-spanning event has swiftly embedded itself as a key fixture in the UK’s alternative calendar. On 4 September 2026, Brighton’s independent venues will once again hum with motorik rhythms, sun-bleached garage riffs and forward-facing psych-pop.

A City-Wide Takeover
The festival unfolds across some of Brighton’s most vital grassroots rooms, including Concorde 2, Komedia, Green Door Store, The Hope & Ruin, The Prince Albert, Volks and Patterns. For one day, the seaside city transforms into a roaming celebration of psychedelic sound in all its forms — from kosmische pulse to lysergic pop excursions.
First Wave Artists Announced
Beyond its headline trio, the newly announced names sketch out a bill that’s both reverent and restless. Dreamlike textures arrive courtesy of Night Tapes, while garage-psych energy surges from The Mystery Lights. Songwriter Lael Neale brings her stark, transportive minimalism, joined by rising acts Thistle, Bleech 9:3 Knives, Floral Image, Lemonsuckr, Martial Arts, Highdrive and Cordelia Gartside. More names are promised in the months ahead.

From Stereolab’s singular catalogue — still unmatched in its blend of lounge-pop, krautrock and radical politics — to Gwenno’s immersive psych-pop explorations and Allah-Las’ heat-haze harmonies, 2026 is shaping up as the festival’s most expansive edition yet.
Curated by JOY. in collaboration with the team behind Manchester Psych Fest, Brighton Psych Fest continues to cement the city’s standing as one of the UK’s most vital live music hubs.
