Brighton’s Slung Unveil Class A Cherry Ahead of Debut Album Drop

Slung Channel Power and Control on Gritty New Single Class A Cherry

Brighton-based quartet Slung have dropped their newest single, Class A Cherry, a slow-burning and sultry track that explores the power structures embedded in sex work. The song lands ahead of their anticipated debut album In Ways, arriving 2nd May 2025 via Fat Dracula, and just as the band gear up for a UK tour in support of the release.

Driven by a brooding bassline courtesy of Vlad Matveikov, Class A Cherry unfolds with menace and melody. The track’s deep groove forms the foundation for vocalist Katie Oldham’s smoky, intense delivery, which carries both defiance and allure. Augmenting the mood are cinematic string arrangements, courtesy of Ukraine’s Kaska Studio String Section, adding a layer of elegance to the grit.

According to Katie, the song is “told from the perspective of a woman weaponizing the male gaze that she must endure regardless, and advising others to use it for their own advantage.” It’s a perspective that’s not just provocative but powerfully self-aware—blending storytelling, concept, and confrontation with real-world resonance.

Class A Cherry follows a string of album teasers that have already showcased Slung’s stylistic reach—from the jagged fun of Thinking About It to the psych-noise chaos of Collider, and the gut-punch drama of Laughter. With In Ways, the band have constructed a universe teeming with contrast: doom-laced riffs rub against dreamy pop touches, while nods to Deftones and Baroness brush up against hints of MJ Lenderman and Fleetwood Mac.

Slung are ready to bring this collision of sound and emotion to the stage this spring.
