Karen Dió announces new EP Fugaz and shares Free Yourself alongside UK dates
Following the viral lift of Karen Dió’s Sick Ride, the Brazilian punk-rocker has announced her second EP, Fugaz, due out on 21 August via Hopeless Records. The release is led by new single Free Yourself, out now.

Dreamt into existence, then cut loose
Speaking about Free Yourself, Dió said: “Most of the time I unfortunately forget the songs by the time I’m awake, but I’m glad I remembered this one.”
She added that the chorus came together quickly after she began working on the idea the same day. “When I showed the embryo of it to Matt (Bigland of Dinosaur Pile-Up, Karen’s husband and writing-partner), he immediately was like, ‘That’s a hit!’ so we started to write the rest,” she said.
“During the whole process of writing Free Yourself we would remind ourselves to be completely free with our creativity and, to be honest, to try being ridiculous sometimes.”
Fugaz stretches across six tracks, with the title cut joined by Euphoria, Free Yourself, Choke, Crawling and Rat Race. The EP follows the momentum of Sick Ride and a run of shows with artists including Limp Bizkit, Sum 41 and Garbage.
That global attention sits alongside a more pointed goal for Dió, who has spoken about representing Brazil’s punk scene on a wider stage. “If I can open that door for Latin American artists, then I’ve accomplished my goal,” she said.
UK and European dates run into September
Dió will also take the new material across a string of festival and club appearances in Europe and the UK. Tickets are available via karendio.com.
